BLACK LEOTARDS
Why Ballet Classes Ask for Black Leotards
Black is the most common dress-code colour once a dancer moves past pre-ballet, though requirements vary by studio and level, so check before the first class. A plain black leotard shows the line of the body clearly for corrections and looks uniform across a class.
Black Leotard Styles
Short sleeve and camisole are the year-round class standards. Long sleeve suits cold studios and is often required for older students. Flutter sleeve and sleeveless scoop neck sit between the two. A skirted black leotard puts the leotard and skirt in one piece, which keeps a dress code while giving her the look she wants.
Cotton or Performance Stretch
Cotton feels softer for weekly class; performance stretch is smoother under a skirt and holds its shape longer through washing. Both are available in black across most styles here.
What to Wear With a Black Leotard
Ballet pink tights are the usual pairing for ballet class, black tights for jazz and contemporary. Shop girls dance tights and kids ballet shoes.
